Initially going into business by way of a small hot dog stand in San Bernardino, California, Taco Bell\'s founding father, Glen Bell, was going to give his restaurant\'s menu theme a couple of different tries before finally settling on Mexican food. After selling the hot dog stand he began a hamburger and fries joint in the same town. But some might even say it was a stroke of good fortune for Mr. Bell that the McDonald\'s brothers also started out in San Bernardino. The competition forced him to consider an alternative fast food option, and apparently he was onto something good.

Today, Taco Bell is a successful international fast food restaurant chain that serves a wide range of Mexican food dishes including burritos, tacos, Quesadillas, nachos, chili specialties, and soft drinks as well as an assortment of other delicious fast food items. The Taco Bell Corporation is a subsidiary of Yum!, a company which also owns Pizza Hut, Long John Silver\'s and KFC. With a weekly consumer of base of 35 million and close to 7,000 Taco Bell sites across the country today - along with a rapidly growing market in countries all around the world, the Mexican food chain boasts a strong franchisee base.

In fact, it is calculated that more than 80% of the Taco Bell locations are under the ownership and management of individual entrepreneurs. With a strong history of franchise success, Taco Bell is still looking for a limited amount of interested parties who have demonstrated the right qualifications to be considered as franchisees of multiple Taco Bell stores. Outside of the United States - including Hawaii - there are nearly 300 Taco Bell locations in Chile, Canada, Aruba, Guam, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Europe and Asia.

The costs of getting a Taco Bell franchise are fairly standard. The Taco Bell Corp. requires that prospective franchisees have a net worth of at least $750,000 and additional assets - in liquid form - of $360,000. In addition, it is necessary that the applicants for a Taco Bell franchise exhibit reliable people management and business organization skills, and that they can demonstrate having had a significant background in business before applying. That\'s why the corporation needs franchisees that have no less than five years of experience in running a restaurant business. Additionally, the operation has to have numbered five or more units. That\'s because the Taco Bell Corp. wants to be sure that its franchisees have the proper business experience for operating a multi-unit Taco Bell franchise.

Another requirement is that neither the franchisee nor any member of his or her immediate family should own any other Mexican food restaurant, whether it be a local gourmet or a fast food chain. In addition, they must not have any type of franchise ownership of a regional or national fast food hamburger chain. There is also a limit to the number of members of an applicant group - only up to five people are allowed. On top of this, the operator who has been decided upon needs to have a minimum of 10% stake of ownership in the organization of applicants.
